چکیده

Abstract We introduce and analyze a stress-based formulation for Zener’s model in linear viscoelasticity. The method is aimed to tackle efficiently heterogeneous materials that admit purely elastic viscoelastic parts their composition. We write the mixed variational of problem terms class tensorial wave equation obtain an energy estimate guaranties well-posedness through standard Galerkin procedure. propose continuous discontinuous space discretizations derive optimal error bounds each semidiscrete solution corresponding norm. Finally, we discuss full discretization strategies both methods.

Mixed Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Darcy Flow

We consider a family of mixed finite element discretizations of the Darcy flow equations using totally discontinuous elements (both for the pressure and the flux variable). Instead of using a jump stabilization as it is usually done for DG methods (see e.g. [3], [13] and the references therein) we use the stabilization introduced in [18], [17]. We show that such stabilization works for disconti...

Mixed Discontinuous Galerkin Methods with Minimal Stabilization

We will address the problem of finding the minimal necessary stabilization for a class of Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods in mixed form. In particular, we will present a new stabilized formulation of the Bassi–Rebay method (see Ref. 1 for the original unstable method) and a new formulation of the Local Discontinuous Galerkin method (LDG), introduced in 1998 by Cockburn and Shu.2 It will be ...

On Interior Penalty And Mixed Discontinuous Galerkin Methods For Elasticity

In this paper, we review existing discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for elasticity and introduce a new formulation based on mixed finite elements. We highlight the subtle and important differences between Interior Penalty (IP) and mixed FEM based methods. In the mixed method for elasticity, choices of function spaces for approximating primal and dual variable is non-trivial for two main reaso...

A Hybrid Mixed Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Convection-Diffusion Problems

We propose and analyse a new finite element method for convection diffusion problems based on the combination of a mixed method for the elliptic and a discontinuous Galerkin method for the hyperbolic part of the problem. The two methods are made compatible via hybridization and the combination of both is appropriate for the solution of intermediate convection-diffusion problems. By construction...

Compositional Modeling by the Combined Discontinuous Galerkin and Mixed Methods

In this work, we present a numerical procedure that combines the mixed finite-element (MFE) and the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods. This numerical scheme is used to solve the highly nonlinear coupled equations that describe the flow processes in homogeneous and heterogeneous media with mass transfer between the phases. The MFE method is used to approximate the phase velocity based on the p...
